Worked in the round over a multiple of 4 stitches.
Round 1: [K2, p2] to end of round.
Repeat this round for 2x2 Rib.

C4F

Slip next 2 stitches to cable needle, hold to front of work, k2 from left needle, k2 from cable needle.

Cable Increase

Knit into the fronts of the next 2 stitches, without dropping those stitches from the left needle; you will have 2 stitches on your right needle which overlap 2 stitches on your left needle; knit the 2 stitches from your left needle through the back loops, dropping them from the left needle as usual. You will have 2 increased stitches, with the new stitches forming a cable twist to the right over the old stitches.

Cable Decrease

Slip next 2 stitches to cable needle, hold to front of work, k first stitch on cable needle together with first stitch on left needle, k remaining stitch on cable needle together with next stitch on left needle. 2 stitches decreased.

Cable Pattern

Worked in the round.
Round 1: K2, p2, C4F, p2.
Rounds 2-6: K2, p2, k4, p2.

Cuff

Cast on 56[64,72] stitches and join to begin working in round, being careful not to twist. Place marker to designate beginning of round. Work in 2x2 Rib for 1 inch.

Leg

Set up round: *K2, p2, cable increase, p2. Repeat from *.
Next 5 rounds: *K2, p2, K4, p2. Repeat from *.
Work Rounds 1-6 of Cable Pattern 9 times.

Heel Flap

Set up: (K2, p2, Cable Decrease, p2) 4[4,5] times, k2[1,2], p1[0,1]. Turn.
Heel flap is worked back and forth over 28[32,36] stitches.

Next row (WS): Slip 1, p27[31,35]. Turn.
Next row (RS): Slip 1, k27[31,35]. Turn.
Repeat these 2 rows until heel flap is 2.25 inches, ending with a WS row.

Turn Heel

Slip 1, k14[16,18], ssk, k1, turn.
Slip 1, p3, p2tog, p1, turn.
Slip 1, k to within one stitch of gap, ssk to close gap, k1, turn.
Slip 1, p to within one stitch of gap, p2tog, p1, turn.
Repeat last two rows until all stitches have been worked. 16[18,20] heel stitches remain.
Slip 1, k 7[8,9] stitches to center of heel.

Gusset

Place marker for beginning of round. Knit remaining heel stitches. Pick up and knit 1 st in each slipped stitch along edge of heel flap, and 1 stitch between base of heel flap and instep stitches. Place marker to indicate beginning of Cable Pattern. Work in established cable pattern across top of foot (34,40,44 stitches). Place marker to indicate end of Cable Pattern. Pick up and knit 1 stitch between top of foot and base of heel flap, and 1 stitch in each slipped stitch along second edge of heel flap. Knit to marker.

On the first round, knit all picked up stitches through the back loop.

Round 1 (decrease round): Knit to 2 stitches before Cable Pattern, k2tog, work Cable Pattern to next marker, ssk, knit to end of round.
Round 2 (even round): Knit to marker, work in Cable Pattern to next marker, knit to end of round.

Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until 28[32,36] stitches remain in stockinette section, or 62[72,80] stitches total including Cable Pattern.

Foot

Continue working even rounds until sock is 2 inches less than desired length, ending on round 5 of the Cable Pattern.
Next round: K14[16,18]. Move marker. Work in Cable Pattern, EXCEPT substitute Cable Decrease for each C4F. Move marker, k to end of round.
Next round: Knit all knit stitches leading up to first purl stitch of round. Purl up to and including last purl stitch of round. Knit remainder of round.

Toe

Plain round: knit.
Decrease round: K to 3 stitches before next marker, k2tog, k1, move marker, k1, ssk, knit to 3 stitches before next marker, k2tog, k1, move marker, k1, ssk, knit to end of round.

Alternate Plain and Decrease rounds until toe measures 2 inches. Finish with Kitchener stitch and weave in ends.
