Fridays are for yarn! Posted by Kristi at 11:16 AM (7 Comments)

Thanks to everyone for all of the feedback on the Froot Loop socks! I'm loving seeing people start to knit them on Ravelry too ... there's even a "Groop" started for a knitalong!

Now, back to our irregularly (at best) scheduled programming. What better than a little Handspun Yarn Friday? This yarn is a 2-ply I made from Yarn Wench merino in the Poodleskirt colorway:

Yarn Wench - Poodle Skirt

Yarn Wench - Poodle Skirt

This was my first yarn plied on my new plying head for my Lendrum. My thoughts on the plying head are 1) Wow, awesome, lots of yarn fits on this bobbin and 2) I wish there were more ratios. That's really about it. I'm excited to ply my Rauen S2S kit on it because I'll be able to fit all 8.5 oz. on the one bobbin, I think. BIG hank o' yarn, I will love thee. But my legs will probably be tired from all that treadling (I like my sock yarn tightly plied). On to the next bobbin of Rauen I go!

I love that color! It doesn't strike me as one of your usual colors.

Your yarn looks fantastic! I totally agree about the plying head. It's really frustrating that you have to treadle so fast/long to get a sufficient amount of twist.

I love that the group is a Groop. That tickles my funny bone. :)

Maybe you could answer a question for me. I have been hearing many people mention Ravelry lately, but I'm a little unclear on what it actually is. So... what is it?

Just saw your Froot Loops socks on Knitty. They look fabulous and I am definitely going to have to make this pattern! Think I know which yarn I'll use too...

Does treadling burn calories? Just curious if it could be considered a form of light exercise.

Of course your socks are getting lots of great feedback -- they're awesome! To be honest though, when I saw them on knitty they didn't seem all that awesome...then I popped over here to your blog & saw the (bigger/different?) picture & fell in love! I might have to join the groop on ravelry too!
