Sock patterns, finally! Posted by cookie at 7:25 AM (18 Comments)

I was going to post all this stuff about how I'm in Philly visiting the pregnant bff who is getting larger and larger by the second, but the camera battery hasn't been charged since we arrived so no photos makes for boring blogging. Instead, I'll have to tell you about socks instead.

The Marilinda Sock pattern is now available as a download. I thought I already blogged about this, but it might have been during the great Down Time of 2007. This sock was originally for Scout's Swag and is knit using Scout's yarn in the Kizkalesi colorway which is gorgeous. I love teal! It's named after Marilinda, the winning model from Project Runway, because Scout and I are both obsessed with that show.

Marilinda - Front

My favorite detail is the side where it divides for the heel and the top of the foot.

Marilinda - Side

Scout and I went back and forth on naming the color, each trying to get the other to do the naming, when finally I said "Fine, if you're going to make me name the color, I'll name it something unpronounceable!" Hence Kizkalesi. It's a town on the Mediterranean coast in Turkey that has a Maiden's Castle. The water there was a beautiful shade of blue:

You can sort of see the little piece of land off the coast where the Maiden's Castle is in this picture.

The Red Thread Sock pattern is also available as a download or in paper from Unwind. The colorway is special from Lorna's Laces and only available at Unwind.

Red Thread - Side

I probably already said in a past post that my favorite detail here is the faux seam at the back of the leg.

Red Thread - Back

Oh yeah, happy holidays and all that stuff. I spent most of Christmas making homemade vareniki and pelmeni for a Russian themed dinner. It was really tasty. LOTS of sour cream was consumed.

Wonderful!
Oh and thanks for including the super-high-def original photos on flicker... it's great to be able to check out the lovely details of the socks close up (esp the side divide you mentioned... rad!).

Marilinda Sock is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

I adore Marilinda! It's just perfect. The design and the inspiration. I'm obsessed with Project Runway too. I'm hating the holiday break. Why couldn't they have kept it a summer show?

I love Scout's kit w/your pattern & the yarn. Now I just need to get to it so I can knit it up. (The perils of signing up for too many sock clubs!)

Love the Red Thread sock pattern too. I just can't figure out if I want the whole kit or just the pattern.

That teal sock is gorgeous! I may even break my "no top down socks" rule to knit one (or two). :)

sooooo.... i love both sock patterns! however, i can't figure out which sock size i am for the red thread kit, which is different if you're an xs/s, or a m-xl. what are the sizes? :)

Love the socks!

Thanks for posting the inspiration photo from Turkey too - I visited there in '99 - the photo is just as gorgeous as I remember :)

I so love the Marilinda pattern, I think that will have to go on my list of to-do's. But I think my next pair of socks is going to be the red thread socks. My dear friend from high school is currently waiting to adopt a baby girl from China so the Red Thread charity is very near and dear to her heart. Her birthday is in February, I so have to knit her a pair. Now to try and remember her shoe size!!

Have a happy new year. Hope to see you at Bobaknit soon! :)

How can I get the Marilinda Sock pattern as a kit using Scout's yarn in the Kizkalesi colorway? I didn't see it available on Scout's website or yours packaged as a kit. Is it available?

I'm new to Cookiea's sock patterns and for this sock knitting addict, they are a wonderful challenge. As a new-bee, I'm a little stuck. Can someone help me interpret the pattern? For the leg set-up, do you knit the 6 leg rows for 8" before moving into the Marilinda pattern and wrap stitch column? OR do you repeat the Marilinda pattern and wrap stitch column for 8" and then move into the pattern paragraph that set's up for the heel flap? Thanks to whomever or all who can answer this for me! ~Carol :o)
